Introducing you to Red Sox past, present and future one infographic at a time …
Sandy Leon may go down as the best acquisition of the Ben Cherington era in Boston.
Traded for in a pinch after the Red Sox found themselves effectively catcher-less late in the spring of 2015 following injuries to Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan.
They swung a deal for Leon in return for cash considerations and he’s followed a somewhat miraculous path to a shared starting spot behind the plate with Vazquez.
The Red Sox actually designated Leon for assignment following the 2015 season and he cleared waivers. Boston managed to sign him back and he played his way back into an integral role, putting together a relatively strong 2016 season.
